Abstract

A medium scale mechanical blackberry pulp extractor was designed, fabricated as well as evaluated various Performance indicator such as throughput of the pulp extractor, juice yield, extraction efficiency and extraction loss. The machine was designed based on the principle of compression and shear due to the action of screen cylinder and wing shaft. It is consisted of a strong frame, hopper, screen cylinder, wing shaft, prime mover and power transmission devices with main shaft. The data obtained from the design analysis of the components were used in the sizing, fabrication and assembling of the machine. The throughput of the pulp extractor, Pulp yield, extraction efficiency and extraction loss were 39.58 ±0.294 kg h-1. 77.49 ±1.18 %, 96.72 ±1.06 % and 6.38 ±0.5 % respectively. Therefore, invented blackberry pulp extractor would be the recommended for commercial blackberry fruit juice producers.
