Abstract

The main schemes of forage harvester chopper units were considered. The method was proposed for evaluation of the cut length or particle length distribution provided by different chopper units of the flail, double chop and precision cut forage harvesters. The effects of theoretical length of cut and other parameters on particle length distribution were studied. The accent was made on the length of particles in the range from 8 to 19 mm, suitable for grass ensiling. The theoretical results did not contradict the theoretical length values recommendations at grass harvesting for ensiling.
